Music Production Colleges
Garnish School of Sound is not like most Music Production Colleges, we specialise in music production courses for all skill levels.
Above, you can see the cone of a speaker which is actually being used as a microphone. A speaker cone can be used like a giant dynamic microphone which works in exactly the same way. For a diaphragm of this size to work, it will need large low frequency waves so I have used this kind of contraption with my sound engineering students on kick drums. Given that it only works on low frequencies, the attack is lost and you only get the low sub of the kick so you need a D12 or something similar to capture the rest of the frequencies. The sub kick is very nice to mix in.
Not all music production colleges offer sound engineering courses and nor do I at the moment, but I am on the look out for well kitted out studio with an SSL desk, plenty of old outboard gear and microphones to use for sound engineering courses at Garnish School of Sound.
